Sapphires come in nearly all of the colours of the rainbow. We have a variety of blues, yellows, parti's (sapphires displaying a mix of colours) and padparadschas available. Sapphire is a variety of Corundum which is the second hardest mineral after Diamond. Pale coloured stones can even exhibit a brilliance close to that of a girl's best friend. Some stones display a three rayed star, in which case the rough is cut as a cabochon to display this phenomena. Blue is the classic colour of sapphire that most people expect to see. However, there are many shades and tones of blue in stones of this beautiful hue. The colour resembling cornflower is the most desirable and valuable, the rich inky blue sapphires appear magical and mysterious.	Yellow sapphires are more rare and valuable than the blue variety. Their brilliance is almost equal to diamond. Cole Gemstones is always looking for exquisite yellow sapphire rough as it is a special favourite of master cutter, Rod Cole.	Parti Sapphires are another favourite of our Master Cutter. Each is unique, with usually two colours blended together like a fine watercolour painting. The pale Parti Sapphires have a sparkling brilliance almost equal to Diamond. All stones are natural sapphire.	These stones have been heat treated to achieve the most desirable colour of Padparadscha Sapphires. The name of these rare sapphires means Lotus Flower in Sinhalese and on seeing the colour, it is easy to understand how they have inspired such a poetic name. They are the rarest and most prized of all sapphires.
